On-air personality for 90.5 WERG, January 2017 - November 2020

Promotions Manager for WERG, May 2020 - November 2020
Social Media Manager for WERG, April 2017 - May 2019
Each year, members from the staff of WERG attend the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference in New York City. This conference has been an extraordinary opportunity that I have been lucky enough to attend every year since 2017.

I was also responsible for doing a Sports Update once a week from January 2019 to February 2020. Another opportunity given to on-air staff is the option to do Radio Roulette, which I have done several times. Radio Roulette is from 9 p.m. to midnight every Friday where we get to play whatever music we want, as long as it is appropriate to air.

Managing Editor, News for The Gannon Knight, August 2018 - May 2019

My first article for The Gannon Knight was published on October 25, 2017. It has since been viewed over 1,000 times. The following year, I earned the position of the managing editor, news for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Having the opportunity to improve my writing skills and learn more about newspaper production has given me a new appreciation for writing. Before this experience, I was not confident in my writing skills nor did I believe I was even good enough to be published in the newspaper.
Below are links to some of my different written pieces that were published in the print edition, online, or both.
For the 42nd annual Writing Awards Program at Gannon University, some of my stories won an award. The ceremony was held April 10, 2019.

I received first place in the news category for "Gannon removes name of former bishop." I received third place in the news category for "Gannon unveils cyber programs, I-HACK Center."

For the 43rd annual Writing Awards Program at Gannon University, I received another award for one of my stories. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no ceremony held. However, we were notified via email on May 26, 2020. In the email, Frank Garland, the faculty advisor of The Gannon Knight, was told to congratulate the winners.

Attached was a document from Liz Allen, a longtime journalist who judged the submissions that year along with her husband, a longtime copy editor. Liz Allen is also a columnist for the Erie Reader. In January 2022, Allen was the newly elected City Council President in Erie, PA; she was also named a 2022 Remarkable Women finalist, highlighted by yourerie.com.

Allen's comments regarding my story were: "Veronica Kowalski goes above and beyond the immediate news to give readers a true profile of who this professor is. The writer delivers on what she lays out in the second graph—reflections on the professor's 'many life-changing experiences, defining moments, and everlasting memories.'"

I received first place in the news category for "Beloved professor retires, reflects on his journey."
